Our Time Capsule cylinders are manufactured from a high impact and chemical resistant material to protect the contents. We also include absorbing desiccant packets, a must for any sealed storage containers. The desiccant packets contain silica gel providing superior absorption and will remove the residual moisture that might permeate the cylinder after long years of concealment under ground. The desiccant is safe to handle and is even approved by FDA for dry food and drug products. This is a great way of adding protection for documents and other items in your Time Capsule. We also include plastic storage bags as part of the Time Capsule package to provide even greater protection of the contents. The items are placed in these bags and oxygen is removed creating a hermetically sealed environment. Oxygen is one of the key components of decay and deterioration and our hermetically sealed bags eliminate or reduce the decaying affect. Another key element in the life of a Time Capsule is temperature. Since the cylinders are buried in soil, the soil acts as a barrier to temperature fluctuation. Soil temperature fluctuates annually and daily affected mainly by variations in air temperature and solar radiation combined with the depth of the soil.
